Women In Transition, Inc. The program is designed for teenage girls in foster care, ages 1. The Transitional Planning Institute I (TPI- 1) is a 4 month curriculum where the young women, in the process of addressing their spiritual, physical and emotional needs with professional facilitators, will create a Transition Plan. The plan will be developed with the girls, their foster parent, their social workers and WIT and will be followed and guided by a Transition Assistant, a graduate student in Social Work and under the supervision of a LCSW- C. The purpose of the plan is for them to have a blue print for achieving their goals, whether it be furthering their education, entering the military, obtaining employment or housing. Once a student graduates from TPI, they are then eligible for Transitional Planning Institute 2 (TPI- 2) that consists of the continuation of one- on- one sessions with a Transition Assistant, workshops and field trips. This process is determined by each of the young ladies specific needs and goals. They will also be eligible for some financial assistance to help in their transitioning process. Once a young woman has transitioned out of foster care, they will be eligible for After Care Management should they desire and need it. By this stage in the process, they will be matched with a mentor and also be welcome to the Women In Transition Nurturing Circles that will take place on a quarterly basis. Young women who come through our program will know that they can always come to us for counseling, workshops, field trips and book clubs, and we hope that they will come back to give back to the girls who will follow them. A new addition to our program is the Women in Transition Summer Economic Development Training Program. The 2. 01. 3 summer program has been made possible in part with funding from the Annie E. This is an 8- week course that is a paid internship, where young ladies who qualify will receive instruction in math, reading, basic accounting, resume writing, food preparation and sales. Participants will receive a Safe Serve Certificate and on the job training at the various Everything Turkey sites, and assistance in obtaining employment. Everything Turkey is a minority woman owned business that has provided many resources and financial assistance to the organization. WIT will assist young women to exit out of foster care with the necessary life skills to be successful. We will help them to create a transition plan to achieve their goals, be it employment, college, an apartment, or a car and we will guide them through the process of achieving those goals. WIT will also provide consistent care after a young woman ages out of foster care if she needs/wants it, and will create space for young women to continue to keep in touch, be involved in workshops, nurturing circles, mentoring, as well as provide them a vehicle to give back. WIT will give foster parents ease of mind, knowing that they have a partner in the care of their child who is about to transition out. Through the Transition Institute 1. WIT will reinforce the nurturing, care and work they have committed to in their child. WIT will work hand in hand with foster parents in guiding their child to achieve the goals that are set out in their Transition Plan. Parents can also feel confident that WIT will continue to be available to their child after they leave their home. WIT will be a partner to Foster Care agencies and assist in helping the children in their care to successfully transition out by providing them with the necessary life skills through the Transition Institute. WIT provides more than resume writing and job preparedness. WIT helps young women to understand who they are spiritually, physically and mentally, enabling them to build the confidence necessary to face and accept any challenge that comes their way. WIT will guide the young women in achieving their goals set out in their Transition Plan. WIT is a partner providing additional resource that would be advantageous to any foster care agency.
